The Curriculum governors meeting on Wednesday 13th March welcomed a group of 6 Year 5 pupils and Mrs Cattermole to complete a Pupil Book Study for us. As governors, we had been made very aware of the work of Alex Bedford by Mr Dinsdale and other subject leaders, but this was the first time that we saw a pupil book study take place.

The children were asked questions about their history unit, Ancient Islamic Civilisation. They were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the topic, even though they hadn't finished it yet! They were able to recall lots of key vocabulary and demonstrated their understanding of what life was like in Baghdad in those times, compared to life in London. They even recalled what Baghdad means - "God given." We learnt a huge amount this afternoon ourselves!

The children showed us their books and they commented on the use of the knowledge notes - these really help us! We know that the staff and Mr Dinsdale are working very hard to make sure all of the History and Geography topics are linked and sequenced in the same way from Year 1 to Year 6. Through listening to these Year 5 pupils, we have every confidence that it is making a positive difference to their learning!
