Nursery

The children have been very keen to play outside with their friends this week.  They have had a wonderful time in our woodland areas, enjoying their outdoor learning.  We are also developing some keen gardeners who have been busy doing some early spring planting.

The children have had a brilliant first week back after half term and many have been fully engaged in water play this week both indoors and out.  We have a new water wall with a pump that children have been exploring and observing cause and effect.  

This week we talked about how we are all special and unique.  We know that God loves us all.   We thought about those who love us and  care for us and drew pictures of them on white boards.  We were also interested in the idea that our fingerprints are all different so we decided to use an ink pad…

The children have been reading ‘Where is Bear?’ by Jonathan Bentley and learning about prepositional language. We used the story to practise moving different objects to different places - in, on, under, behind, beside and through.

Today we have enjoyed creating some valentines crafts for our families.

We had lots of fun on our pyjama day raising money for our school.

The children enjoy playing and exploring in our woodland area in all weathers. 

As part of our ongoing learning we have been finding out about Chinese New Year.  Some of our children have had experience of Chinese New Year celebrations in Liverpool city centre.  We enjoyed making rice and trying to eat it with chopsticks at our nursery celebration. 

The children have used mirrors to look at their faces and create self-portraits in pencil. Some children also painted portraits of one another using clear plastic. The children practised drawing circles for faces and eyes and added detail to their faces.

In Maths this week the children have been exploring shapes and building with different blocks. They recognised how ‘flat’ shapes were easier to build with and created towers, houses, robots and shops.

Magnetic tiles have been a recent addition to the resources in our nursery and have been extremely popular.  It has been fascinating to observe the interactions of the children and the different strategies of exploring and creating used.  The resource only arrived last week and building progress…
