We have been creating collages using different strips of paper and pictures. The collages represent natural features such as the bark of the tree.

The children created a story map about what was encountered by Arthur following his journey from his town to the home of Thor.

Today we have consolidated our understanding of mixed numbers and improper fractions.

The children worked in pairs to match the correct representations together.

Today in class we practiced grammar with a twist.

The children worked in small groups to answer a range of grammar questions whilst one of the group was secretly a ‘traitor’ trying to fool them by choosing the incorrect answer.

The children were investigating which material is the best to keep a drink warm.

Every hour, they recorded the temperature of the water and recorded their findings.

We discovered that the fleece was the best material for keeping the water warm.

This week, we have been creating poems based around Norse mythology.

The children explored the classroom adding noun phrases, similes and metaphors relating to each animal, object, setting or character.

They then took those ideas and used them to form their poems.

This term we are looking at how the Earth is divided.

We looked at how the Equator bisects the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.

We then researched and discussed the differences between the two hemispheres.

On Friday, the children enjoyed a Santa dash around the playground in their Christmas jumpers.

Year 5 have been exploring printmaking.

After looking at the work of Andy Warhol, the children designed their own stencil based around a Christmas theme.

We are going to use our stencils to create wonderful Christmas cards.

The children explored the life of Galileo Galilei.

They discovered he was one of the first scientists to explain how the Solar System revolve around the sun.

Also, how his discoveries and improvements with the telescope helped our understanding of the universe.

After learning about the Anglo-Saxons, the children looked at the Vikings arrival.

We discussed why the Vikings raided and explored misconceptions such as all Vikings were viscous.

Today the children worked in small groups to create a safety belt. 

They had to ensure that it would be effective at meet the product design brief.

After, they assessed whether their belt had met the criteria of the brief.
