We have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpoilar today and learning about the life cycle of a butterfly, after the release of our very own butterflies in nursery last week.  This afternoon there was great excitement when the children found a particularly large caterpillar in our nursery garden.  We managed to tease it on to a leaf and bring it inside at the end of the day to have a closer look.  We found out that a caterpillar typically has six true legs, near the head and ten prolegs on their tummies.
