Curriculum Impact Tag: Art & Design

This half term the children are exploring finger painting. They are talking about the different colours and describing textures and shapes. Some children are creating their own images such as "my mummy", "a rainbow" and "hearts". 

We have been collecting natural things to use in our sculptures next week. We are looking at the artist Louise Bourgeois.

Today we have applied weaving techniques using raffia to create a natural piece of artwork.

Children created their own collagraph block using a range of materials. They then used this block to make their own repeat printed patterns.

This week the children have been exploring colour mixing with paints. We have been learning about the primary colours red, yellow and blue and seeing what happens when we mix them together. We have also painted our own crocodile as we continue to read ‘Let’s All Creep Through Crocodile Creek’.…

Architects of the future here in Reception.  The boys spent most of the afternoon building this airport!

Year 4 completed their art topic of painting today by producing one of their own abstract pieces focusing on flowers. The children used a range of materials to help create their desired effects; sketching pencils, water colours and acrylic paints. 

In Nursery we are learning about using different media and this week we have been exploring the marks made by felt tip pens.  So many children have been encouraged to pick up pens use them for a variety of purposes.  We have had pictures created of families, friends, a rainbow cake, a unicorn,…

The children created a printed leaf surface for use in the next lesson. They then used a range of fruit and vegetables to make a symmetrical design from prints.

We have been focusing on linear drawings and collage.

After drawing a section of tree bark and parts of a tree, we used a range of strip cuts to create a collage. 
 

We thought carefully about the choice of colours and placement of each part of the collage.

Our current topic in Art is painting. We have looked at he work of different artists, including Georgia O’Keefe whose work was focused heavily on flowers. We were inspired by her work and have been working on re creating paintings of flowers in her style. 

The children made prints using a natural object. They experimented to create a repeating pattern.
